As we close out 2019, I wanted to give you some upcoming 7th grade band events and reminders:
- Students do not have to do practice logs over Winter Break. Our next practice log will be due January 13th for the week of January 6-12.
- Instruments should go home over Winter Break. At school instruments such as tubas, euphoninums, french horns, etc, can leave their at school instruments at school.
- Solo and Ensemble is Saturday February 8th, 2020 at Livonia Franklin HS. All participating students should have music selected, have begun practicing, and understand the rules of the event. A reminder that any piece of music that has a piano accompaniment must have the part played in order to receive a rating. This applies to almost all solos.
- Jazz Band auditions will be March 16th-20th. More information about Jazz auditions will go home after Winter Break. A few tips:
- Percussionists interested in auditioning for jazz band must be proficient at playing drum set. We recommend lessons!
- Piano/guitar players should understand and know how to read chords and understand the basics of comping chords.
- Woodwind/Brass players should focus on scales for practice. Know your notes!
- EVERYONE interested should listen to jazz! If you need recommendations of jazz artists to listen to, please ask Ms. Stout or Mr. Beery.
- Our Spring Band Concert is May 14th at 6:30pm. This concert will feature 6th grade band, 7th grade band, and the 8th grade Jazz band.
If you have any questions, please email Ms. Stout at stoutl@aaps.k12.mi.us. We hope everyone has a wonderful and restful Winter Break, and we look forward to seeing everyone back in school in January!
