8th Grade Practice Logs

Categories8th GradeGeneral Information

Good Afternoon Tappan 8th Grade Band Families,

With our first concert completed, we are looking ahead to our busy winter and spring programs. In order to facilitate good practice habits and to help ensure success of all students in band class, starting next week we are implementing practice logs.

These logs will be half-sheets given out to students each week and will be due every Monday for the rest of the year. These logs need to be filled out by your students every week to track the minutes they are practicing each day.  Since sixth grade, practicing has always been an expectation in band; Our expectations for your students have not changed.

Our expectation for practicing is a total of one hundred minutes per week. We recommend breaking this down to twenty minutes a day five days per week. Of course, students are always encouraged to practice more. Your role in regard to practice logs is to sign them each Sunday before they are due on Monday, and to double check that the log has been totaled accurately. Practice logs will be ten points per week. Ten points=one hundred minutes of practicing. For example, if a student practices eighty five minutes, they will receive 8.5/10 for their practice log that week.

Attached to this email is a copy of the blank practice log your student will be receiving on Monday December 10th. Our first practice log of the year will be due on Monday December 17th.

Please click here to view the practice log: Tappan Band Practice Logs.pdf

The log will also be available on tappanbands.org if your student ever misplaces their log and needs to print one at home.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Enjoy your weekend and look for practice logs to be coming home on Monday.
