The Community Music School of Ann Arbor invites you to the Summer Jazz Institute 


July 22nd-26th

Led by Ingrid Racine and Paul Finkbeiner with many guest artists. 


She’s got Rhythm: 
8:30-12:30 | Ages 10-20
A week long summer workshop for young women to play and learn alongside the best woman jazz players in the area! This unique opportunity will inspire, engage and empower young women as they gain an entirely new perspective on what is possible, both in themselves and in music.   Participants will be in a safe, non-competitive space to study jazz, have the chance to connect  to professional women in jazz for continued mentorship and be empowered with the tools and resources to pursue careers in jazz. READ MORE.

The Afternoon Jam
1:00-4:00 | All ages

All instruments and vocalists welcome.
This class would deal with roles of the different instruments, interpreting melody, chords, improvisation and styles in a small jazz band. We will figure out compositions by Duke Ellington, Herbie Hancock, Horace Silver, Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins and various jazz standards are put together. READ MORE

The Jazz Messengers
7:00-9:00pm | Advanced

All instruments welcome
The evening session would be a study of this iconic jazz album Art Blakey, Horace Silver, Hank Mobley and Detroiters Donald Byrd and Doug Watkins. Compositions will include those from Hank Mobley and Horace Silver plus two standards arranged by Silver. READ MORE
