SPRING BAND CONCERT SURVEY FOR EIGHTH GRADE FAMILIES-WE NEED YOUR FEEDBACK

A reminder about the Spring concerts: Due to scheduling constraints, our two currently scheduled eighth grade spring concerts are two days apart, the Spring Concert on Thursday May 16th and Picnic Pops on Saturday May 18th.

What we are proposing to Eighth Grade Concert Band students and families:

  • Eighth Grade Concert Band would only perform at Picnic Pops, NOT at the Spring Band Concert. This is the high school model for spring performances.
  • The Spring Band Concert would be 6th, 7th, and Jazz Band only (jazz bands do not perform at Picnic Pops)
  • Eighth Grade Concert Band would perform in an assembly during the school day for the student body before the end of the year

Our goal in proposing this change is for students to have ample time to rehearse high-quality music, to be able to prepare soundly for high school auditions, and for parents and families to have more flexibility in their schedules by freeing up the evening of the 16th. We also have concerns with the size of the Tappan auditorium (there are not enough seats for all band students and families to watch the concert).

For clarity, this would mean Eighth Grade Band’s final concert this year would be Picnic Pops at Pioneer (Saturday May 18th).

The overwhelming majority of students preferred this change when asked, but I want to reach out to parents for your opinions as well. Currently, nothing has been changed in the calendar. Linked below is a very short survey asking your opinion on this matter. This survey will be sent to students as well. If the survey does not work for you for any reason, you can simply email me at stoutl@aaps.k12.mi.us with your preference. Please note when you click on this link it will redirect you to a new webpage to take the survey:

We currently have 40 responses on this survey, so thank you for those of you who have completed it. Your feedback is invaluable as we consider this potential schedule change.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please email Ms. Stout at stoutl@aaps.k12.mi.us. We will reach out after Spring Break if there ends up being a change to the calendar. Again, we would only be removing a performance, not adding anything, and as of right now nothing has been changed in the calendar.
