Dear Ann Arbor Public School music community,
After thorough consultation and thoughtful conversation, the music staff and administration of the Ann Arbor Public Schools have regretfully decided to cancel the 2020 AAPS High School Music Camps scheduled to take place at the Interlochen Center of the Arts on August 11-17, 2020 (Pioneer) and August 18-24, 2020 (Huron and Skyline). This decision was made due to the projected impact of the COVID-19 Global Pandemic and a shift in the Interlochen Arts Center calendar as they prepare to safely welcome back their students in August.
We understand the benefits that thousands of our students receive by being immersed in music with their peers each year on the Interlochen campus, and how deeply ingrained the camp experience is to the culture of excellence of the Ann Arbor Public Schools. Ultimately however, the health, safety, and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff must be our first priority. Words cannot fully express our profound disappointment in making this difficult but compassionate decision.
In the coming weeks and months, AAPS music staff, building administration, and central administration will continue to explore ways in which we can bring our students together, even if virtually for the time being, so that they can meet each other, share ideas, have fun, and bond both musically and emotionally. Our students need music and art now more than ever. In the meantime, please stay safe, stay healthy, and remain creative in all of the arts!
